Teaching and Training

Judges
I have worked (annually from 2004-2018) with the National Judicial Institute (NJI) at Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, teaching “Settlement Conference Skills” for new Provincial Court judges, together with Judge Donna Senniw and Christine Hart.

BC Provincial Court judges (2005 & 2006) Designed and delivered a 2 day “refresher” course in Judicial Dispute Resolution to all BC judges.

For BC Supreme Court, I co-designed and delivered a seminar on Mediative Approaches to Judicial Case Conferences for 115 Supreme Court Justices and Masters, in May , 2018.

Mediation & Facilitation Training
I have worked across Canada and in the US designing and delivering training in negotiation, mediation, facilitating multi-party processes and consensus-building. In 2011, I received Family Mediation Canada’s Award of Excellence “For outstanding achievement in the area of Education and Training”.

Provincial Government
Within government in BC, I have designed and delivered training in interest-based and cross-cultural negotiation, mediation, and consensus-building (shared decision-making) to and through such groups as:

Continuing Legal Education BC:
From 2013-2018, I was a lead trainer in Continuing Legal Education’s Dispute Resolution Curriculum (CLEBC), designing and delivering a range of courses with Gordon Sloan and others.

We filmed a DVD on family mediation made possible by a Law Foundation grant. This DVD continues to be available through Legal Services for those who wish to offer people a snapshot about mediation upon separation and divorce.

Justice Institute
I was a Senior Trainer with JIBC for about 15 years, until 2007, delivering in-house and customized courses on contract, to groups such as:

Universities/Academia
Much of my teaching was with faculty and administrative leadership within university settings, for professionals working with daily conflict in their departments. The focus was on conflict engagement, and provided me with great opportunities to custom design courses to the needs and interests of the academic community. See (See Work 2009-2019).
